Overview
Seeing is believing.

Johannes van Uden is a Dutch artist who has been painting for over sixty years - and still does so daily, from his home in The Hague. The entire house functions as one large studio: canvases everywhere, the scent of oil paint in the air, traces of work in progress. The space breathes art - just like he does.

Hans graduated cum laude from art school and began his career in the Dutch countryside. The wide-open fields and endless skies shaped his vision, and horizontal lines came to dominate his work. His paintings radiate space, balance, and quiet.

In 1998, he moved with his wife - also an artist - to New York. They lived in a loft in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, overlooking Manhattan. A place that was still raw and undiscovered at the time, now famous and completely transformed. In 2000, they relocated to Manhattan itself. The city became his rhythm, his energy source. High and low. Vertical and horizontal. Light and dark. His paintings reflect cityscapes - not literal ones, but images filtered through his eyes and laid down on canvas. Impressions in color and rhythm, layered and abstract.

Seeing is believing. Just follow your eyes.

For years, Johannes and his wife lived a life of freedom, movement, and creative exchange. Not a duo in the traditional sense, but two artists following their own paths - sometimes parallel, sometimes touching. A life between studios, openings, friends, and late nights - but always centered around the work. Now back in the Netherlands, Johannes lives alone but remains faithful to his rhythm. From his house in The Hague - now more studio than home - he paints every day. Not out of discipline, but because there is no other way.

His abstract paintings, often oil on canvas, are layered, refined, and visually immediate. They ask nothing more than to be seen. In an age where meaning is often prepackaged, Van Uden believes in the act of looking itself. In experience. In the power of the image.

Seeing is believing.
